What is the Tutors@ANU Community

The feedback received from Teaching Forums, the Tutoring and Demonstrating survey and cross-uni discussions on supporting tutors and demonstrators at ANU all indicated the need for tutors to have access to continuous support and community within ANU.

The Tutors@ANU website provides information and resources for tutors and demonstrators at the ANU. As suggested by the tutoring and demonstrating community, we have upgraded the Tutors@ANU website (http://tutors.anu.edu.au/) and added the Tutors@ANU Community. This is a social online space for forums and blogs about Tutoring and Demonstrating at the ANU. It is primarily a place where tutors can tell their stories about tutoring, receive advice, share information and create a community. It is also a place where tutors can be inspired by, learn from and celebrate each other and their achievements.

The Tutors@ANU Community is a forum and blog space about tutoring and demonstrating at ANU. It allows tutors to gain advice and mentoring from their peers and create a learning community for tutors.  The Tutors@ANU Community site is maintained by the Tutors Support Network.  Please contact tutors@anu.edu.au for help or suggestions for the site.

Tutoring Advisors and Bloggers

The Tutors Support Network is looking for additional ‘2009 Tutoring Advisors and Bloggers’ to help support the community by adding their comments, advice and blogs. It will not only allow you to make a valuable contribution to your tutoring and demonstrating community, but will also look great on your CV!

The Job
o       You will initially be working with the product and development team to design the blog and then ‘fill the pipe’ with stories.
o       You will create blog posts over the year relating to issues of importance to the tutoring community with a minimum of four ½ page blogs on your profile. You can use this opportunity to write your own compelling stories and commentary, expressing the personality of Tutors@ANU and its mission.
o       You will be searching our community forums for posts that need advice at least once a week. You will have responsibility for doing this on one set day per week.
o       You will solicit advice for our Tutors@ANU Community members, write-up responses and advice for the forums and provide comments when necessary on your day of responsibility.
o       When the community becomes more established, you will be able to stand back and let our membership, staff and guests express themselves, offer their own advice and provide feedback.

The Candidate
o       Must be an excellent editor
o       It is desirable that you have experience with a blog, forum, or other community oriented web technology
o       Must be completely comfortable in the blogosphere
o       Must be a current Tutor or Demonstrator with at least one year’s experience in the role. …someone who knows what it’s like to be part of the tutoring world!

If the above describes you and your passions, please email us at tutors@anu.edu.au with links to your blog(s) as an example of your work and a letter telling us why you want to be a blogger and editor for the Tutors@ANU Community!

Applications are open all year.
